Happy Wednesday my friend! This week as I was thinking about what I wanted to share with you, it came to mind that one of the biggest joys in my life is something I haven’t shared much about. Not because I don’t think about it, or because it’s in any way difficult, or it’s something I don’t think you would be interested in, but because it’s such a continuous part of my life, I just kind of forget it’s there. What I’m talking about is reading. Most of the time, I have 3-4 books going at the same time. And that will hold true until one of them really captures my attention and I plop myself down and read it until I finish it. I did just that this past Sunday. 🙂 (Our book club is meeting next week, so I wanted to finish up our book, The Women, a novel by Kristin Hannah, and I picked that baby up and didn’t put it down until I got to the end. (I liked it ok, not great, but ok, IMHO.) The thing with books and reading is it’s such an easy way to add joy to your life. Whether you like mystery (my favorite!) adventure, science fiction (Yuck!) romance, or a combination of all of these (would WOULD that be like I wonder) there is a book you will enjoy I promise. So much better than watching our screens, reading transports you, reduces your stress, improves your vocabulary, enlarges your capacity for empathy (fiction), and even teaches you things you would otherwise have no idea of! Plus, of course, it’s fun! 🙂 Now I’ve always been a voracious reader. I won reading awards starting in 1st grade and my favorite vacation (to this day!) is the week I spent on the Greek island of Corfu, alone, with just my sunscreen, sunhat and 23 books! (In the days before Kindle, I actually took a suitcase full of books with me!) 🙂 If you don’t like the actual reading a book part, I get it (sort of) but lucky you, you can find similar joy by listening to the books. My daughter is an audio learner, doesn’t really like to read, but does enjoy listening to books. If this is an area you’d like to explore, you can do it easily and for free! Just google where your local library is. Then go by and get a free library card. Then, you can check out paper books, ebooks, audiobooks, and even access thousands of magazines and newspapers via their online app. If it’s been a while since you picked up a book just for fun, I’d encourage you to take this email as a reminder of the something magical that’s awaiting you just on the other side of the cover. Love you and cheering you on, Christy 🙂 |
